The day started very productive. Of course, ignoring the feeling of icky I woke up with, but I usually ignore minor maladies, especially when they are of the monthly variety. Therefore wanting to start my day on a better note, I decided that I was going to finish what I started yesterday, and get my started on a proper good note. I added several new fitness podcasts to my iPod. Did the budgeting. Even remembered my breakfast. So after having managed to get my day on a proper positive note and started having such a wonderful start to my day, I figured it would be a great day to turn.
I had planned on a few spindles, and an attempt at a lap bowl.
Well the bowl was a total fail, so many imperfection in the wood I was having hollow chunks flying off. Only after a few stops and rechecking my work did I realize that my project was turning I to a fail.
So, after a moment of pique, I decided to truck on. I grabbed some locust for a spindle. I remember it being beautiful once finished, however difficult to turn. Armed with the forsight if a overly dry dirty wood that acts like oak, I proceeded carefully. After getting the rough shape, before I knew it I had a bark chunk that I revealed flew off and hit my face shield.
Very thankful I wear all of my gear at every turning, however I was getting rather irritated.
Determined to have something I can call a spindle at least started, I grabbed the last blank for the day. Some silkwood that I have had in stash for a while.
Being extra cautious, but mindful I finally managed to get past the rough shape. However as the day is already very late, and I am due to pick up my soon in an hour or so I decided to end on a positive note.
Some days one should listen when their bodies proclaim a rest day. So I am stopping for the day, but at least the day wasn’t a total loss. I have what looks to be another beauty that is about to grace my shop.
